Returning to creative flow: How 15 Minutes can reconnect you

Happy Sunday!

Today is the first session of our ‘Fifteen Minutes of Flow’ Sessions.

Fifteen minutes of flow is about using creative flow principles to get back into a creative activity that you have been wanting to do for a while but keep putting off.

Creative Flow

Do you have an activity that you used to engage in, that made you feel like you were completely immersed, and lost track of time whilst you were doing it?

This feeling is called ‘flow‘ and it is a state where the brain and body are in a balanced state of activation and calm, neither overly relaxed or overly activated, but in that optimum space where our nervous system is balanced.

In fact, flow is more likely to occur when you are being challenged just enough to be engaged but not frustrated. It’s not about relaxing and switching off, it is about doing something in a way that captivates and engages you.

I’ve been reading ‘The Art of the Impossible‘ by Steven Kotler where he speaks about how to find the right activity for you that will bring you to a state of flow. But you may already know what activity has done this for you in the past. Maybe it is time to bring that activity back into your life?

I haven’t played guitar in a few years and so I am planning to open my guitar case, take out my guitar, tune it and then start getting reacquainted with the chords I used to be able to play but have probably forgotten.

What would you like to get back to doing?

Join our session:

We would love for you to join our 15 Minutes of Flow session later.

The accountability of a group can help to motivate us when we struggle to prioritise, and the structure can help us to start small and build up gradually.

If you are joining us later, then aim to gather what you need before the session. If you need a chord sheet for your instrument, locate it and print it out now. If you need to restring your instrument and want to do this in the session, that’s totally fine, just grab the strings and tools that you need now.

We will be having a setup session before the flow session, but it will only be for 7 Minutes so make sure you have everything you need in front of you before we start.

Structure of the session:

This is the structure that I will be taking us through. It is designed to be quick and to get us into doing the thing as swiftly as possible.

I have designed this so that you will feel you have made the most of the 15 Minutes.  Do feel free to stay longer if you want to chat, share and journal with me at the end of the session.
