The Convergence series
When movement, gaze and sound converge there is a feeling that happens in the body. It is sensory, and it is pre-cognitive. My work is focused on this feeling, and how it can connect us to something outside of ourselves and make us feel expanded.

Attention
Where we look affects how we feel.
This is an experiment in working with the movement of visual attention and how it feels to orient to different directions. I am using the flute to represent gaze direction, and voice as the sensor of the space. This piece investigates the relationship between gaze, sound and the sensing of space by the body.
Below is a rough sketch of the video and audio for the ‘down’ direction.

Notes: FEEL
(Gaze & Voice in space)
Down: Defensive submission/contraction. Mono, no reverb. A droning monologue with nonsense content that cannot travel anywhere. Underneath a voice that is trying to travel.
Transition to centre/ahead: A travelling and a movement through space. Going somewhere: Chorus.
Centre: Clear, stable, medium loudness. Some space. Grounded and sensible.
Left: Suspicious orienting
Right: Curious assessment
Upward: Unstable possibilities
Outward: Grounded expansion with space and a relationship between the space and gaze and voice.
